Mexico Energy Efficiency- CONUEE
On September 10, 2010, the government of Mexico finalized a “Catalog of Equipment or Devices for which Manufacturers, Importers, Distributors and Merchants Must Provide Information on Energy Consumption” (the “Catalog”). Any equipment that is listed in this catalog will be required to provide mandatory energy consumption labeling set forth in the 2008 Law on Sustainable Energy Use.
The National Commission for Efficient Energy Use (CONUEE) finalized and printed the list in the Official Gazette on September 10, 2010, and the requirements took effect the next day. There is a very large variety of electronics totaling around 190 products, ranging from televisions, modems and video consoles. If you would like to see the list in its entirety, click here.
The Catalog requires that new energy-consuming equipment and devices distributed or sold in Mexico must inclued the following information on the equipment in a clear and visible form:
- Energy consumption per unit of time in operation
- energy consumption in standby mode per unit of time, if applicable
- quantity of product or service offered by the equipment per unit of energy consumed, where applicable.
